Express Entry
It’s a program of the Federal Govt. of Canada to invite the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence.
You will be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS gives you a score from the information in your profile, including your:
- skills
- education
- language ability
- work experience
- Age
- other factors
You can also get points for:
- Canadian degrees, diplomas or certificates
- A valid job offer

- A nomination from a province or territory
- Siblings already PR or citizen of Canada
- French Language Proficiency
There are a total of 1,200 points available under the Comprehensive Ranking System. For candidates without an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, there are:
- a maximum of 500 points available for core human capital factors;
- a maximum of 100 points available for skill transferability factors;
- 600 points available for either a provincial nomination; or
- up to 200 points available for a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and
- up to 30 points for Canadian study experience.
- up to 30 additional points for French language ability, combined with English language ability; and
- a maximum of 15 points for a sibling in Canada.
For candidates with an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, there are:
- a maximum of 460 points available for core human capital factors of the principal applicant;
- a maximum of 40 points for the core human capital factors of the spouse or common-law partner;
- 600 points available for either a provincial nomination; or
- up to 200 points available for a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and
- up to 30 points for Canadian study experience.
- up to 30 additional points for French language ability, combined with English language ability; and
- a maximum of 15 points for a sibling in Canada (one sibling of the principal applicant and the accompanying spouse/common-law partner is considered).
CIC send invitations to apply to the candidates with the highest scores in the pool. When they invite you to apply, you will have 90 days to submit an online application for permanent residence.
Then the most complete applications that have all the supporting documents get processed in six months or less.
You can stay in the pool for up to 12 months as long as you meet the criteria for one of the federal programs. You should update your profile anytime as your case changes.
If you do not get ITA to apply for permanent residence within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, you can submit a new profile. If you still meet the criteria, you will re-enter the pool.
